Apple Sued for Limiting Rivalđ Search Engines
On Friday, a French software maker, Nexedi, said that it was suing Apple to make it support Web standards as per French lawâ & allow rival browsing engines onto the iPhone. Apple does allow rival apps like Googleâs Chrome on the iPhone. However, they have to use Appleâs Web rendering engine meaning that their ability to draw on the latest Web standards is limited to whatever Apple decides to includeđ€. So newer technologies like the WebM & the WebRTC standards canât be used on Apple. Nexedi said in a blog post, âWe hope [this lawsuit] will help Apple to sooner support the latest Web & HTML5 standards on its iOS platform â the operating system used by all iPhones.â
